How it all started...

Camel Trophy was an off-road car rally that was first held in 1980 in the Amazon. Three crews from Germany in Jeep cars took part. This was the only land-based edition of this rally not using Land Rovers, as starting with the Trophy in Sumatra in 1981 all editions were held using different Land Rover models such as Range Rover, Series III, Defender, Discovery. All cars were painted in the distinctive sandy yellow colour (sandglow).
